I have recently taken this book out of the library also. It gives us an insight of the take over by technology once again. I found the diagrams and images in the book most interested, some of which are below.
This is Diego Rivieras' Mural "Pan American Unity" which is now at San Francisco city college. According to the book it "expresses the liberatory potential of cyborgization by showing Goddess and machine in productive harmony." I was drawn to the half machine half goddess illustration on the image because of it symbolizing cyborgization most of all. The hands halt position also captures the viewer immensely.
The diagrams on this page illustrate the link people made between cyborgs and astronauts in the way astronauts rely so much on the technology in space to live that there technologically advanced equipment almost becomes a part of them.
Under the top diagram is a caption which says:-
"Without technology humans could not exist in space," which sums up this link. It was probably one of the first signs of humans apparently transforming into cyborgs.
Similarly in this image it shows how technology is needed for humans to be in deep water for a period of time.
The top image here is a drawing of a "roboroach", drawn by Joshua Gray. In this diagram he is expressing that animals can also be cyborgs. It reminds me of the book Metamorphosis I have just started reading.
The caption reads "All cyborgs aren't necessarily part human."
This diagram is from a NASA report that focused on the idea of the cyborg. It shows the concept of cyborg is situated from a number of factors.
This image was done by Bob Thawley, it seems to be a science fiction character which I think is rather freaky in appearance. It shows many of the characters organs being "cyborgized".
